‘Lucid Gem’ is a stunning creation from Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms, Napa Valley, California, USA. This is a red/yellow interior sister of Brad’s ‘Blue Beauty’ tomato. An indeterminate, regular leaf plant producing small (4-5oz./120-150g), beefsteak fruit. Initially, they ripen to a yellow hue, then, when fully ripe, they turn orange. The contrast between the black anthocyanin spots and the lighter skin tone is strikingly attractive. The flavor is sweet with fruity tones and the flesh is meaty with very few seeds. A real scene-stealer on any sliced platter or summertime salad. A varietal with an excellent ability to store after harvest and a superior capacity to remain ripe on the vine for an extended period of time without deteriorating in quality. Very good heat tolerance. Mid- to late season, about 78-88 days to maturity.

GROW.After placing the tamarillo seeds on the compost, cover them with a thin layer of soil and press down. Keep the soil constantly moist for the next three weeks: putting a plastic cover over the seed tray is a good way to do this. Keep the seeds in a warm, bright place with a temperature of at least 20°C.
